Ex-NIGHTWISH Singer Says She Decided To Leave Band In December 2004: Video Available
November 11, 2005Tarja Turunen, the ousted lead singer of Finnish metal group NIGHTWISH, said in a press conference in Helsinki on Friday (Nov. 11) that she had decided to quit the band already in December 2004, according to NewsRoom Finland.
In an open letter posted on the NIGHTWISH web site on October 22, the other members of the band effectively sacked her.
In tears, Turunen said she regretted the announcement came in the format of a letter instead of a face-to-face conversation. Check out video clips (and photos) of Turunen during her press conference, which took place earlier today.
As previously reported, a 30-second video clip of NIGHTWISH's final performance with Turunen, which took place on October 21 at the Hartwall arena in Helsinki, Finland, is available online: Real Media, Quicktime. The concert was filmed professionally for an upcoming DVD, "End of an Era", tentatively due in late 2006. The group are currently seeking a replacement vocalist before entering the studio in September 2006 to begin recording the follow-up to 2004's "Once", tentatively due in mid-2007.
